Townsfolk is a colony-building strategy game where every choice shapes your settlement’s fate. Explore uncharted lands, manage resources, and face disasters, wild animals, and moral dilemmas. With roguelite challenges, skirmish mode, and deep strategy, will your town thrive or fall?
My now-husband introduced me to the Civilization games while we were in college (Civ III was my first), and they’ve always had a special place in my heart, even if the last few haven’t quite captured that same thrill. Enter TownsFolk, a hex-based roguelite city-builder with charming pixel graphics and a deep choice-based narrative I wasn’t expecting.
From Short Circuit Studio (based in Stockholm, Sweden), I found the TownsFolk demo to be great fun and easy to pick up and play. The pixel art is great, and exploring the fog-covered tiles adds suspense, since anything could be hiding there. Treasure? Maybe. New friends? Maybe. A wild animal that has now put your villagers in danger?
Gulp.
(P.S: Better make good choices, because that can doom you too.)
TownsFolk is now available on the App Store and Google Play, with a Steam release date TBA. (I started playing on my phone, and I’m HOOKED.)
