Welp, all it took was five minutes for me to fall in love. (Again)

We’ve known that Hyper Games has been working on another Moomin-themed game for a few months now, and this week, players on Steam can get their hands on a bite-sized demo of what’s coming next year.

Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth is a spiritual successor to last year’s Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley, both inspired by the works of Tove Jansson. The story for Winter’s Warmth is based on Jansson’s Moominland Midwinter, the sixth book in the series, published in 1957.

In the demo, you’re playing as Moomintroll, who has woken too early from winter hibernation. At first, he’s looking to find the Lady of the Cold and bring Spring back, but you’re suddenly faced with a new quest: recovering a lost dog who wandered into the forest in hopes of joining a wolf pack.

The fifteen minutes I spent playing the demo were enchanting. While the art for Snufkin is full of vibrant greens and other spring-like colors, the cool blues and icy pastels of winter really made the world pop. There was also more polish in the art and design in Moomintroll so far, but it still looks like it could be straight from a book.

Let me know what you thought of the demo and if you’re excited to play more next year!
