Mixtape, the eagerly anticipated second game from Beethoven and Dinosaur, has been delayed to next year. First announced during the Summer 2024 Xbox Showcase, the game had been planned to launch in 2025.

The full statement, shared on Twitter and Bluesky, harkens back to when the team was developing The Artful Escape, and seems to imply the delay won’t be long (hopefully).

While developing Artful Escape, our 3D artist Mikey, made an oven asset. It was a nice oven – the work of a true pro. He even put the knobs on. And that’s who we are at Beethoven & Dinosaur. We put the knobs on. Mixtape is almost complete, we’re just putting the knobs on. See you in 2026.

Mixtape is Beethoven and Dinosaur’s second collaboration with publisher Annapurna Interactive, following The Artful Escape. Set in the 90s, the game features three friends spending their last night of high school together, going to one last party. Thanks to a “perfectly curated playlist,” the trio will experience their formative moments again, “from the first kiss to the last dance.”

Even if you’re not big into video games, this one seems like it’ll appeal to fans of 80s and 90s coming-of-age stories, and even more recent stories like Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist. A demo was available for those attending Summer Game Fest in person this year, becoming a favorite among many attendees.

Plus, with music from the likes of DEVO, Lush, The Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, and Siouxsie and the Banshees, how can you go wrong there?

Mixtape is set to release on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles next year. It’ll also be available Day One on Xbox Game Pass.

Readers, may I offer you a song in these trying times?
