Was that a bear? Yes, yes it was
Frederico Moreno Breser is the solo developer behind Bogdan’s Cross, which will be released for PC sometime in 2025.
The game was announced at the Future Games Show in June of last year, and I immediately had to find (and wishlist) because of the combination of visuals and the subject. Set in the Crusades, you’re a Shepherd boy who rises through the ranks to become a Templar Knight.
Bogdan’s Cross takes you on an unforgettable journey through medieval Europe, where history, faith, and power collide. As Bogdan, a humble shepherd, you will rise through the ranks of the Templar Order, confront the darkness threatening to consume the land, and uncover the hidden secrets of the Crusades.
I’m not avoiding the obvious here; you’re also a bear. In a post on the Unreal Engine Dev forums, Breser wrote that:
“Bears are central to the story, embodying strength, resilience, and the struggle between instinct and faith. But the world of Bogdan’s Cross is rich and varied, with a cast of different animals reflecting the complex dynamics of the era. It combines historical realism and creative storytelling inspired by the graphic novel series Blacksad. I wanted to explore this era with a fresh lens and a touch of mythic symbolism.”
The game will also feature a unique Token system: throughout the game, you’ll find Tokens of Faith which strengthen Bogdan’s resolve, giving him bonus and buffs to certain abilities, and you’ll also encounter Tokens of Doubt, which “represent his fear and self-doubt.“
There’s no release date yet for Bogdan’s Cross, and as of right now, it’ll only be available on Steam or the Epic Games Store.
